The CXSU63133 is a compact, PFM mode, and step-upEkU嘉泰姆

DC-DC converter with low quiescent current. The inter-EkU嘉泰姆
nal synchronous rectifier reduces cost and PCB spaceEkU嘉泰姆
by eliminating the need for an external Schottky diode.EkU嘉泰姆
Low on-resistance of the internal switches improves theEkU嘉泰姆
efficiency up to 92%. The start-up voltage is guaranteedEkU嘉泰姆
below 1V. After start-up, the device can operate with inputEkU嘉泰姆
voltage down to 0.7V. The CXSU63133 is suitable for por-EkU嘉泰姆
table battery-powered applications. Consuming only 11μAEkU嘉泰姆

Inductor SelectionEkU嘉泰姆
The inductor value determines the inductor ripple currentEkU嘉泰姆
and affects the load transient response. It is recom-EkU嘉泰姆
mended to select the boost inductor in order to keep theEkU嘉泰姆
maximum peak inductor current below the current limitEkU嘉泰姆
threshold of the power switch. For example, the currentEkU嘉泰姆
limit threshold of the CXSU63133’s switch is 600mA. ForEkU嘉泰姆
choosing an inductor which has peak current passed,EkU嘉泰姆
firstly, it is necessary to consider the output load (IOUT),EkU嘉泰姆
input (VIN), and output voltage (VOUT). Secondly, the de-EkU嘉泰姆
sired current ripple in the inductor also needed to beEkU嘉泰姆
taken into account. The current was calculated in “OutputEkU嘉泰姆
Capacitor Selection”. Since the output ripple is the prod-EkU嘉泰姆
uct of the peak inductor current and the output capacitorEkU嘉泰姆
ESR, the larger inductor value reduces the inductor cur-EkU嘉泰姆
rent ripple and output voltage ripple but typically offers aEkU嘉泰姆

ternal feedback voltage falls below the reference voltage,EkU嘉泰姆
the main switch turns on and the inductor current rampsEkU嘉泰姆
up. The main switch turns off when the current reachesEkU嘉泰姆
the peak current limit of typical 600mA. The second crite-EkU嘉泰姆
rion that turns off the switch is the maximum on-time ofEkU嘉泰姆
4μs (typical). As the main switch is turned off, the syn-EkU嘉泰姆
chronous switch is turned on and delivers the current toEkU嘉泰姆
the output. The main switch remains off for a minimum ofEkU嘉泰姆
900ns (typical), or until the internal feedback voltage dropsEkU嘉泰姆
below the reference voltage. By the control scheme withEkU嘉泰姆
low quiescent current of 11μA (typical), the converter getsEkU嘉泰姆
high efficiency over a wide load range. EkU嘉泰姆
Start-UpEkU嘉泰姆
A startup oscillator circuit is integrated in the CXSU63133.EkU嘉泰姆
When the power is applied to the device, the circuit pumpsEkU嘉泰姆
the output voltage high. Once the output voltage reachesEkU嘉泰姆
1.4V (typ), the main DC-DC circuitry turns on and boostsEkU嘉泰姆
the output voltage to the final regulation point.EkU嘉泰姆
Synchronous RectificationEkU嘉泰姆
The internal synchronous rectifier eliminates the needEkU嘉泰姆
for an external Schottky diode, thus, reducing cost andEkU嘉泰姆
board space. During the cycle off-time, the P-channelEkU嘉泰姆
MOSFET turns on and shunts the MOSFET body diode.EkU嘉泰姆
As a result, the synchronous rectifier significantly improvesEkU嘉泰姆
efficiency without the addition of an external component.EkU嘉泰姆
Conversion efficiency can be as high as 92%. EkU嘉泰姆
Over-Temperature ProtectionEkU嘉泰姆
The over-temperature circuit limits the junction tempera-EkU嘉泰姆
ture of the CXSU63133. When the junction temperature ex-EkU嘉泰姆
ceeds 150°C, a thermal sensor turns off the powerEkU嘉泰姆
MOSFETs, allowing the devices to cool. The thermal sen-EkU嘉泰姆
sor allows the converter to start a start-up process andEkU嘉泰姆
regulate the output voltage again after the junction tem-EkU嘉泰姆
perature cools by 40°C. The OTP is designed with a 40°CEkU嘉泰姆
hysteresis to lower the average TJ during continuous ther-EkU嘉泰姆
mal overload conditions, increasing lifetime of the device.EkU嘉泰姆
