The CXSU63133 is a compact, PFM mode, and step-upgLY嘉泰姆

DC-DC converter with low quiescent current. The inter-gLY嘉泰姆
nal synchronous rectifier reduces cost and PCB spacegLY嘉泰姆

Inductor SelectiongLY嘉泰姆
The inductor value determines the inductor ripple currentgLY嘉泰姆
and affects the load transient response. It is recom-gLY嘉泰姆
mended to select the boost inductor in order to keep thegLY嘉泰姆
maximum peak inductor current below the current limitgLY嘉泰姆
threshold of the power switch. For example, the currentgLY嘉泰姆
limit threshold of the CXSU63133’s switch is 600mA. ForgLY嘉泰姆
choosing an inductor which has peak current passed,gLY嘉泰姆
firstly, it is necessary to consider the output load (IOUT),gLY嘉泰姆
input (VIN), and output voltage (VOUT). Secondly, the de-gLY嘉泰姆
sired current ripple in the inductor also needed to begLY嘉泰姆
taken into account. The current was calculated in “OutputgLY嘉泰姆
Capacitor Selection”. Since the output ripple is the prod-gLY嘉泰姆
uct of the peak inductor current and the output capacitorgLY嘉泰姆
ESR, the larger inductor value reduces the inductor cur-gLY嘉泰姆
rent ripple and output voltage ripple but typically offers agLY嘉泰姆

The converter monitors the output voltage. When the in-gLY嘉泰姆
ternal feedback voltage falls below the reference voltage,gLY嘉泰姆
the main switch turns on and the inductor current rampsgLY嘉泰姆
up. The main switch turns off when the current reachesgLY嘉泰姆
the peak current limit of typical 600mA. The second crite-gLY嘉泰姆
rion that turns off the switch is the maximum on-time ofgLY嘉泰姆
4μs (typical). As the main switch is turned off, the syn-gLY嘉泰姆
chronous switch is turned on and delivers the current togLY嘉泰姆
the output. The main switch remains off for a minimum ofgLY嘉泰姆
900ns (typical), or until the internal feedback voltage dropsgLY嘉泰姆
below the reference voltage. By the control scheme withgLY嘉泰姆
low quiescent current of 11μA (typical), the converter getsgLY嘉泰姆
high efficiency over a wide load range. gLY嘉泰姆
Start-UpgLY嘉泰姆
A startup oscillator circuit is integrated in the CXSU63133.gLY嘉泰姆
When the power is applied to the device, the circuit pumpsgLY嘉泰姆
the output voltage high. Once the output voltage reachesgLY嘉泰姆
1.4V (typ), the main DC-DC circuitry turns on and boostsgLY嘉泰姆
the output voltage to the final regulation point.gLY嘉泰姆
Synchronous RectificationgLY嘉泰姆
The internal synchronous rectifier eliminates the needgLY嘉泰姆
for an external Schottky diode, thus, reducing cost andgLY嘉泰姆
board space. During the cycle off-time, the P-channelgLY嘉泰姆
MOSFET turns on and shunts the MOSFET body diode.gLY嘉泰姆
As a result, the synchronous rectifier significantly improvesgLY嘉泰姆
efficiency without the addition of an external component.gLY嘉泰姆
Conversion efficiency can be as high as 92%. gLY嘉泰姆
Over-Temperature ProtectiongLY嘉泰姆
The over-temperature circuit limits the junction tempera-gLY嘉泰姆
ture of the CXSU63133. When the junction temperature ex-gLY嘉泰姆
ceeds 150°C, a thermal sensor turns off the powergLY嘉泰姆
MOSFETs, allowing the devices to cool. The thermal sen-gLY嘉泰姆
sor allows the converter to start a start-up process andgLY嘉泰姆
regulate the output voltage again after the junction tem-gLY嘉泰姆
perature cools by 40°C. The OTP is designed with a 40°CgLY嘉泰姆
hysteresis to lower the average TJ during continuous ther-gLY嘉泰姆
mal overload conditions, increasing lifetime of the device.gLY嘉泰姆
