The CXSU63133 is a compact, PFM mode, and step-upsrY嘉泰姆

DC-DC converter with low quiescent current. The inter-srY嘉泰姆
nal synchronous rectifier reduces cost and PCB spacesrY嘉泰姆
by eliminating the need for an external Schottky diode.srY嘉泰姆
Low on-resistance of the internal switches improves thesrY嘉泰姆
efficiency up to 92%. The start-up voltage is guaranteedsrY嘉泰姆
below 1V. After start-up, the device can operate with inputsrY嘉泰姆
voltage down to 0.7V. The CXSU63133 is suitable for por-srY嘉泰姆

Inductor SelectionsrY嘉泰姆
The inductor value determines the inductor ripple currentsrY嘉泰姆
and affects the load transient response. It is recom-srY嘉泰姆
mended to select the boost inductor in order to keep thesrY嘉泰姆
maximum peak inductor current below the current limitsrY嘉泰姆
threshold of the power switch. For example, the currentsrY嘉泰姆
limit threshold of the CXSU63133’s switch is 600mA. ForsrY嘉泰姆
choosing an inductor which has peak current passed,srY嘉泰姆
firstly, it is necessary to consider the output load (IOUT),srY嘉泰姆
input (VIN), and output voltage (VOUT). Secondly, the de-srY嘉泰姆
sired current ripple in the inductor also needed to besrY嘉泰姆
taken into account. The current was calculated in “OutputsrY嘉泰姆
Capacitor Selection”. Since the output ripple is the prod-srY嘉泰姆
uct of the peak inductor current and the output capacitorsrY嘉泰姆
ESR, the larger inductor value reduces the inductor cur-srY嘉泰姆
rent ripple and output voltage ripple but typically offers asrY嘉泰姆
larger physical size.srY嘉泰姆

The converter monitors the output voltage. When the in-srY嘉泰姆
ternal feedback voltage falls below the reference voltage,srY嘉泰姆
the main switch turns on and the inductor current rampssrY嘉泰姆
up. The main switch turns off when the current reachessrY嘉泰姆
the peak current limit of typical 600mA. The second crite-srY嘉泰姆
rion that turns off the switch is the maximum on-time ofsrY嘉泰姆
4μs (typical). As the main switch is turned off, the syn-srY嘉泰姆
chronous switch is turned on and delivers the current tosrY嘉泰姆
the output. The main switch remains off for a minimum ofsrY嘉泰姆
900ns (typical), or until the internal feedback voltage dropssrY嘉泰姆
below the reference voltage. By the control scheme withsrY嘉泰姆
low quiescent current of 11μA (typical), the converter getssrY嘉泰姆
high efficiency over a wide load range. srY嘉泰姆
Start-UpsrY嘉泰姆
A startup oscillator circuit is integrated in the CXSU63133.srY嘉泰姆
When the power is applied to the device, the circuit pumpssrY嘉泰姆
the output voltage high. Once the output voltage reachessrY嘉泰姆
1.4V (typ), the main DC-DC circuitry turns on and boostssrY嘉泰姆
the output voltage to the final regulation point.srY嘉泰姆
Synchronous RectificationsrY嘉泰姆
The internal synchronous rectifier eliminates the needsrY嘉泰姆
for an external Schottky diode, thus, reducing cost andsrY嘉泰姆
board space. During the cycle off-time, the P-channelsrY嘉泰姆
MOSFET turns on and shunts the MOSFET body diode.srY嘉泰姆
As a result, the synchronous rectifier significantly improvessrY嘉泰姆
efficiency without the addition of an external component.srY嘉泰姆
Conversion efficiency can be as high as 92%. srY嘉泰姆
Over-Temperature ProtectionsrY嘉泰姆
The over-temperature circuit limits the junction tempera-srY嘉泰姆
ture of the CXSU63133. When the junction temperature ex-srY嘉泰姆
ceeds 150°C, a thermal sensor turns off the powersrY嘉泰姆
MOSFETs, allowing the devices to cool. The thermal sen-srY嘉泰姆
sor allows the converter to start a start-up process andsrY嘉泰姆
regulate the output voltage again after the junction tem-srY嘉泰姆
perature cools by 40°C. The OTP is designed with a 40°CsrY嘉泰姆
hysteresis to lower the average TJ during continuous ther-srY嘉泰姆
mal overload conditions, increasing lifetime of the device.srY嘉泰姆
