The CXSU63133 is a compact, PFM mode, and step-upqWx嘉泰姆

DC-DC converter with low quiescent current. The inter-qWx嘉泰姆
nal synchronous rectifier reduces cost and PCB spaceqWx嘉泰姆
by eliminating the need for an external Schottky diode.qWx嘉泰姆
Low on-resistance of the internal switches improves theqWx嘉泰姆
efficiency up to 92%. The start-up voltage is guaranteedqWx嘉泰姆
below 1V. After start-up, the device can operate with inputqWx嘉泰姆
voltage down to 0.7V. The CXSU63133 is suitable for por-qWx嘉泰姆
table battery-powered applications. Consuming only 11μAqWx嘉泰姆
quiescent current and an optimized control scheme al-qWx嘉泰姆

Inductor SelectionqWx嘉泰姆
The inductor value determines the inductor ripple currentqWx嘉泰姆
and affects the load transient response. It is recom-qWx嘉泰姆
mended to select the boost inductor in order to keep theqWx嘉泰姆
maximum peak inductor current below the current limitqWx嘉泰姆
threshold of the power switch. For example, the currentqWx嘉泰姆
limit threshold of the CXSU63133’s switch is 600mA. ForqWx嘉泰姆
choosing an inductor which has peak current passed,qWx嘉泰姆
firstly, it is necessary to consider the output load (IOUT),qWx嘉泰姆
input (VIN), and output voltage (VOUT). Secondly, the de-qWx嘉泰姆
sired current ripple in the inductor also needed to beqWx嘉泰姆
taken into account. The current was calculated in “OutputqWx嘉泰姆
Capacitor Selection”. Since the output ripple is the prod-qWx嘉泰姆
uct of the peak inductor current and the output capacitorqWx嘉泰姆
ESR, the larger inductor value reduces the inductor cur-qWx嘉泰姆
rent ripple and output voltage ripple but typically offers aqWx嘉泰姆
larger physical size.qWx嘉泰姆

The converter monitors the output voltage. When the in-qWx嘉泰姆
ternal feedback voltage falls below the reference voltage,qWx嘉泰姆
the main switch turns on and the inductor current rampsqWx嘉泰姆
up. The main switch turns off when the current reachesqWx嘉泰姆
the peak current limit of typical 600mA. The second crite-qWx嘉泰姆
rion that turns off the switch is the maximum on-time ofqWx嘉泰姆
4μs (typical). As the main switch is turned off, the syn-qWx嘉泰姆
chronous switch is turned on and delivers the current toqWx嘉泰姆
the output. The main switch remains off for a minimum ofqWx嘉泰姆
900ns (typical), or until the internal feedback voltage dropsqWx嘉泰姆
below the reference voltage. By the control scheme withqWx嘉泰姆
low quiescent current of 11μA (typical), the converter getsqWx嘉泰姆
high efficiency over a wide load range. qWx嘉泰姆
Start-UpqWx嘉泰姆
A startup oscillator circuit is integrated in the CXSU63133.qWx嘉泰姆
When the power is applied to the device, the circuit pumpsqWx嘉泰姆
the output voltage high. Once the output voltage reachesqWx嘉泰姆
1.4V (typ), the main DC-DC circuitry turns on and boostsqWx嘉泰姆
the output voltage to the final regulation point.qWx嘉泰姆
Synchronous RectificationqWx嘉泰姆
The internal synchronous rectifier eliminates the needqWx嘉泰姆
for an external Schottky diode, thus, reducing cost andqWx嘉泰姆
board space. During the cycle off-time, the P-channelqWx嘉泰姆
MOSFET turns on and shunts the MOSFET body diode.qWx嘉泰姆
As a result, the synchronous rectifier significantly improvesqWx嘉泰姆
efficiency without the addition of an external component.qWx嘉泰姆
Conversion efficiency can be as high as 92%. qWx嘉泰姆
Over-Temperature ProtectionqWx嘉泰姆
The over-temperature circuit limits the junction tempera-qWx嘉泰姆
ture of the CXSU63133. When the junction temperature ex-qWx嘉泰姆
ceeds 150°C, a thermal sensor turns off the powerqWx嘉泰姆
MOSFETs, allowing the devices to cool. The thermal sen-qWx嘉泰姆
sor allows the converter to start a start-up process andqWx嘉泰姆
regulate the output voltage again after the junction tem-qWx嘉泰姆
perature cools by 40°C. The OTP is designed with a 40°CqWx嘉泰姆
hysteresis to lower the average TJ during continuous ther-qWx嘉泰姆
mal overload conditions, increasing lifetime of the device.qWx嘉泰姆
