The CXSU63133 is a compact, PFM mode, and step-upIDt嘉泰姆

DC-DC converter with low quiescent current. The inter-IDt嘉泰姆
nal synchronous rectifier reduces cost and PCB spaceIDt嘉泰姆
by eliminating the need for an external Schottky diode.IDt嘉泰姆
Low on-resistance of the internal switches improves theIDt嘉泰姆
efficiency up to 92%. The start-up voltage is guaranteedIDt嘉泰姆
below 1V. After start-up, the device can operate with inputIDt嘉泰姆
voltage down to 0.7V. The CXSU63133 is suitable for por-IDt嘉泰姆
table battery-powered applications. Consuming only 11μAIDt嘉泰姆

Inductor SelectionIDt嘉泰姆
The inductor value determines the inductor ripple currentIDt嘉泰姆
and affects the load transient response. It is recom-IDt嘉泰姆
mended to select the boost inductor in order to keep theIDt嘉泰姆
maximum peak inductor current below the current limitIDt嘉泰姆
threshold of the power switch. For example, the currentIDt嘉泰姆
limit threshold of the CXSU63133’s switch is 600mA. ForIDt嘉泰姆
choosing an inductor which has peak current passed,IDt嘉泰姆
firstly, it is necessary to consider the output load (IOUT),IDt嘉泰姆
input (VIN), and output voltage (VOUT). Secondly, the de-IDt嘉泰姆
sired current ripple in the inductor also needed to beIDt嘉泰姆
taken into account. The current was calculated in “OutputIDt嘉泰姆
Capacitor Selection”. Since the output ripple is the prod-IDt嘉泰姆
uct of the peak inductor current and the output capacitorIDt嘉泰姆
ESR, the larger inductor value reduces the inductor cur-IDt嘉泰姆
rent ripple and output voltage ripple but typically offers aIDt嘉泰姆
larger physical size.IDt嘉泰姆

The converter monitors the output voltage. When the in-IDt嘉泰姆
ternal feedback voltage falls below the reference voltage,IDt嘉泰姆
the main switch turns on and the inductor current rampsIDt嘉泰姆
up. The main switch turns off when the current reachesIDt嘉泰姆
the peak current limit of typical 600mA. The second crite-IDt嘉泰姆
rion that turns off the switch is the maximum on-time ofIDt嘉泰姆
4μs (typical). As the main switch is turned off, the syn-IDt嘉泰姆
chronous switch is turned on and delivers the current toIDt嘉泰姆
the output. The main switch remains off for a minimum ofIDt嘉泰姆
900ns (typical), or until the internal feedback voltage dropsIDt嘉泰姆
below the reference voltage. By the control scheme withIDt嘉泰姆
low quiescent current of 11μA (typical), the converter getsIDt嘉泰姆
high efficiency over a wide load range. IDt嘉泰姆
Start-UpIDt嘉泰姆
A startup oscillator circuit is integrated in the CXSU63133.IDt嘉泰姆
When the power is applied to the device, the circuit pumpsIDt嘉泰姆
the output voltage high. Once the output voltage reachesIDt嘉泰姆
1.4V (typ), the main DC-DC circuitry turns on and boostsIDt嘉泰姆
the output voltage to the final regulation point.IDt嘉泰姆
Synchronous RectificationIDt嘉泰姆
The internal synchronous rectifier eliminates the needIDt嘉泰姆
for an external Schottky diode, thus, reducing cost andIDt嘉泰姆
board space. During the cycle off-time, the P-channelIDt嘉泰姆
MOSFET turns on and shunts the MOSFET body diode.IDt嘉泰姆
As a result, the synchronous rectifier significantly improvesIDt嘉泰姆
efficiency without the addition of an external component.IDt嘉泰姆
Conversion efficiency can be as high as 92%. IDt嘉泰姆
Over-Temperature ProtectionIDt嘉泰姆
The over-temperature circuit limits the junction tempera-IDt嘉泰姆
ture of the CXSU63133. When the junction temperature ex-IDt嘉泰姆
ceeds 150°C, a thermal sensor turns off the powerIDt嘉泰姆
MOSFETs, allowing the devices to cool. The thermal sen-IDt嘉泰姆
sor allows the converter to start a start-up process andIDt嘉泰姆
regulate the output voltage again after the junction tem-IDt嘉泰姆
perature cools by 40°C. The OTP is designed with a 40°CIDt嘉泰姆
hysteresis to lower the average TJ during continuous ther-IDt嘉泰姆
mal overload conditions, increasing lifetime of the device.IDt嘉泰姆
