The CXSU63133 is a compact, PFM mode, and step-upIHs嘉泰姆

DC-DC converter with low quiescent current. The inter-IHs嘉泰姆
nal synchronous rectifier reduces cost and PCB spaceIHs嘉泰姆
by eliminating the need for an external Schottky diode.IHs嘉泰姆
Low on-resistance of the internal switches improves theIHs嘉泰姆
efficiency up to 92%. The start-up voltage is guaranteedIHs嘉泰姆
below 1V. After start-up, the device can operate with inputIHs嘉泰姆
voltage down to 0.7V. The CXSU63133 is suitable for por-IHs嘉泰姆

Inductor SelectionIHs嘉泰姆
The inductor value determines the inductor ripple currentIHs嘉泰姆
and affects the load transient response. It is recom-IHs嘉泰姆
mended to select the boost inductor in order to keep theIHs嘉泰姆
maximum peak inductor current below the current limitIHs嘉泰姆
threshold of the power switch. For example, the currentIHs嘉泰姆
limit threshold of the CXSU63133’s switch is 600mA. ForIHs嘉泰姆
choosing an inductor which has peak current passed,IHs嘉泰姆
firstly, it is necessary to consider the output load (IOUT),IHs嘉泰姆
input (VIN), and output voltage (VOUT). Secondly, the de-IHs嘉泰姆
sired current ripple in the inductor also needed to beIHs嘉泰姆
taken into account. The current was calculated in “OutputIHs嘉泰姆
Capacitor Selection”. Since the output ripple is the prod-IHs嘉泰姆
uct of the peak inductor current and the output capacitorIHs嘉泰姆
ESR, the larger inductor value reduces the inductor cur-IHs嘉泰姆
rent ripple and output voltage ripple but typically offers aIHs嘉泰姆

up. The main switch turns off when the current reachesIHs嘉泰姆
the peak current limit of typical 600mA. The second crite-IHs嘉泰姆
rion that turns off the switch is the maximum on-time ofIHs嘉泰姆
4μs (typical). As the main switch is turned off, the syn-IHs嘉泰姆
chronous switch is turned on and delivers the current toIHs嘉泰姆
the output. The main switch remains off for a minimum ofIHs嘉泰姆
900ns (typical), or until the internal feedback voltage dropsIHs嘉泰姆
below the reference voltage. By the control scheme withIHs嘉泰姆
low quiescent current of 11μA (typical), the converter getsIHs嘉泰姆
high efficiency over a wide load range. IHs嘉泰姆
Start-UpIHs嘉泰姆
A startup oscillator circuit is integrated in the CXSU63133.IHs嘉泰姆
When the power is applied to the device, the circuit pumpsIHs嘉泰姆
the output voltage high. Once the output voltage reachesIHs嘉泰姆
1.4V (typ), the main DC-DC circuitry turns on and boostsIHs嘉泰姆
the output voltage to the final regulation point.IHs嘉泰姆
Synchronous RectificationIHs嘉泰姆
The internal synchronous rectifier eliminates the needIHs嘉泰姆
for an external Schottky diode, thus, reducing cost andIHs嘉泰姆
board space. During the cycle off-time, the P-channelIHs嘉泰姆
MOSFET turns on and shunts the MOSFET body diode.IHs嘉泰姆
As a result, the synchronous rectifier significantly improvesIHs嘉泰姆
efficiency without the addition of an external component.IHs嘉泰姆
Conversion efficiency can be as high as 92%. IHs嘉泰姆
Over-Temperature ProtectionIHs嘉泰姆
The over-temperature circuit limits the junction tempera-IHs嘉泰姆
ture of the CXSU63133. When the junction temperature ex-IHs嘉泰姆
ceeds 150°C, a thermal sensor turns off the powerIHs嘉泰姆
MOSFETs, allowing the devices to cool. The thermal sen-IHs嘉泰姆
sor allows the converter to start a start-up process andIHs嘉泰姆
regulate the output voltage again after the junction tem-IHs嘉泰姆
perature cools by 40°C. The OTP is designed with a 40°CIHs嘉泰姆
hysteresis to lower the average TJ during continuous ther-IHs嘉泰姆
mal overload conditions, increasing lifetime of the device.IHs嘉泰姆
